Using a prefabricated shower tray and ramp

1. Prefabricated shower tray: Schluter®-KERDI-SHOWER-T/-TS/-TT

 KERDI-SHOWER-T/-TS/-TT are prefabricated sloped shower trays with integrated KERDI waterproofing that eliminate the need for a mortar bed. Twelve sizes available, including a neo angle configuration and off-center drain for tub replacements. 

KERDI-SHOWER-TT features a thin perimeter height (29/32" [23 mm] - 1-1/32" [26 mm]) that simplifies curbless shower construction. The KERDI-SHOWER-T and KERDI-SHOWER-TS shower trays feature thicker heights (1-1/8" [29 mm] - 1-1/2" [38 mm]) that may also be suitable for your project.

2. Point drain: Schluter®-KERDI-DRAIN

The KERDI-DRAIN features an integrated bonding flange which allows for a simple and secure connection to the KERDI waterproofing membrane. The drain grate is available in stainless steel, various finishes of anodized aluminum, and even a frameless tileable model, which can be adjusted laterally to fit the layout of the tile grid and leveled to the tile surface—accommodating a wide range of tile thicknesses.

3. Prefabricated shower ramp: Schluter®-KERDI-SHOWER-R

Ideal for use in barrier-free showers, the KERDI-SHOWER-R ramp is made of lightweight, expanded polystyrene and adheres to the slope ratio required by the ADA.

4. Waterproofing membrane and vapor retarder: Schluter®-KERDI

In this shower application, the KERDI waterproofing membrane has been applied to the solid backing on the walls, as well as the shower base and curb. KERDI is a pliable, sheet-applied polyethylene waterproofing membrane and vapor retarder that has been specifically designed for tile applications. Since it is made of inorganic materials, KERDI will not promote mold growth within the system.

While the KERDI membrane is used in the image above, note that KERDI-BOARD multifunctional building panels are also suitable.

5. Uncoupling and waterproofing membranes: Schluter®-DITRA and Schluter®-DITRA-HEAT

Specifically designed for ceramic and stone tile installations, the family of DITRA products provides effective uncoupling protection, preventing cracked tiles and grout. Made of polyethylene, DITRA also serves as a waterproofing layer that protects moisture-sensitive substrates, such as plywood/OSB. Free-space on the underside of the matting provides a route for excess moisture and vapor to prevent damage to the tile layer above. DITRA performs all these functions while still providing adequate support/load distribution for the tile covering.

Different options and thicknesses of DITRA membrane are available to best suit the needs of your project.

DITRA has a nominal 1/8" (3 mm)-thickness which minimizes tile assembly thickness.

DITRA-XL is 5/16” (7 mm)-thick and allows for ceramic tile application over single layer plywood/OSB subfloors on joists spaced at 24” (610 mm) o.c.

DITRA-HEAT features a thickness of 1/4" (5.5 mm) and is especially designed to allow for the easy installation of DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cables.

DITRA-HEAT-DUO features an integrated bonding fleece that provides sound control, as well as a thermal break. The nominal 5/16” (8mm) thickness minimizes tile assembly thickness. The system can also be customized with floor heating cables to create a warm, luxurious tile floor.

6. Waterproofing strip: Schluter®-KERDI-BAND

KERDI-BAND is a waterproofing strip used to seal all KERDI-BOARD butt joints, screw penetrations, and the connection between the KERDI-BOARD panels on the walls with the KERDI membrane laminated to the shower tray. KERDI-BAND is only 4 one-thousands of an inch (4 mil)-thick, half the thickness of KERDI thus limiting buildup, and ensuring a smooth surface for tile installation.

7. Waterproofing corners Schluter®-KERDI-KERECK

KERDI-KERECK  are preformed, seamless corners made of KERDI for waterproofing inside and outside corners. Corners tend to be challenging areas to waterproof, so these corners greatly simplify installation.

8. Corner Movement Joint Schluter®-DILEX-EKE

Schluter®-DILEX-EKE is a corner movement joint profile with rigid PVC anchoring legs and a 3/16” (5 mm)-wide, soft chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) movement zone that separates individual tile fields at floor/wall transitions and inside wall corners and forms the visible surface.

KERDI-SHOWER-LT/-LTS are prefabricated expanded polystyrene sloped trays with integrated KERDI waterproofing specifically designed to accept the KERDI-LINE linear drain. The trays are available in ten configurations with center drain and perimeter drain placements with reduced perimeter heights that simplifies construction of curbless showers. Shower tray heights range from 1-1/4" (32 mm) to 2-3/8" (60 mm).

2. Linear floor drain: Schluter®-KERDI-LINE

Go linear! KERDI-LINE has a low profile which makes it ideal for open-concept, curbless showers, including those designed to accommodate wheelchairs. Beautiful design meets function and accessibility!

Designed to integrate with the Schluter®-Shower System, the KERDI-SHOWER-R is a lightweight, prefabricated shower ramp for creating accessible, curbless showers.

4. Waterproofing membrane and vapor retarder: Schluter®-KERDI

KERDI is a pliable sheet-applied polyethylene waterproofing membrane and vapor retarder that guarantees uniform thickness. It is covered with an anchoring fleece on both sides to anchor the membrane in thin-set mortar and is suitable for waterproofing in conjunction with tiled surfaces on walls and floors. KERDI is 8-mil thick and has a vapor permeance of 0.90 perms.

While the KERDI membrane is used in the image above, note that KERDI-BOARD multifunctional building panels are also suitable.
