Linear drains have become sought-after drainage choices for residential and commercial showers alike. With their high-design appeal, linear drains make a statement in the shower, but they also have a functional side. With point drains, shower bases must be sloped from all directions to the drain, therefore limiting tile selection to mosaics or other relatively small-format tiles. With KERDI-LINE, the shower base can be sloped on a single plane, enabling the use of attractive large format tiles. Large-format tiles on the bathroom floor can be continued onto the shower base, creating a seamless transition.
Waterproofing remains the cornerstone of your shower’s durability. Water and vapor penetrate through the grout joints (even sealed grout joints), mortar, and backing materials in shower walls and floors, allowing moisture to collect in the wall cavity or floor structure, which is the primary cause of mold growth. KERDI-LINE and the Schluter®-Shower System offer an integrated moisture management solution that eliminates leaks and mold growth, and ensures the lasting beauty of your tiled shower.
In this linear drain shower, we are using KERDI-BOARD building panels fastened directly to the studs , instead of gypsum or cement board, tocreate a bonded waterproof assembly. KERDI-BOARD is a lightweight XPS foam panel that is inherently waterproof. Unlike gypsum or cement boards which require additional prep work for waterproofing; KERDI-BOARD combines substrate installation and waterproofing in one simple step.
KERDI-BOARD is the ideal substrate for your tile shower!
KERDI-LINE is an elegant, low profile linear floor drain specifically designed for bonded waterproofing assemblies. Install KERDI-LINE adjacent to the wall, or at intermediate locations of your shower floor—and then choose the drain grate that best matches your décor and desired finished look.
With lengths from 20" to 72" (50 cm to 180 cm) in 4" (10 cm) increments, KERDI-LINE can fit virtually any shower design.
The KERDI-LINE channel body is made of formed stainless steel and features a bonding flange laminated with a collar made of KERDI waterproofing membrane. It ensures a simple and secure connection to the bonded waterproofing assembly, both in the floor area and on adjacent walls. It features a standard 2" (50 mm) no-hub outlet that is simple to connect to the waste line, and is offered in center and offset versions, providing flexibility when obstacles (e.g., floor joists) are encountered during installation.
Drain grates are available in three elegant designs: brushed stainless steel frame with closed or perforated grates for a striking modern look, or frameless tileable covering support to seamlessly blend in with the surrounding tiles. KERDI-LINE-STYLE grates feature designs that fit virtually into an invisible frame. The grate assembly can be adjusted to a wide range of tile thicknesses, while the covering support is placed flush with the channel body and can therefore accommodate any thickness covering.
The KERDI-SHOWER-LT/-LTS shower trays are made of lightweight, expanded polystyrene with integrated waterproofing via the KERDI membrane laminated on the surface, and a perfect slope so water is funneled directly to the drainage. The tray is simply bonded to any even and level substrate, and it’s ready to tile. As such, it eliminates the time and labor involved in building a sloped mortar bed. However, in cases where the configuration of the shower does not allow for the use of the tray, KERDI-LINE can also be used in conjunction with a mortar base.
There are two drain placement options available for the shower tray: center or wall-adjacent, as seen in this image. The KERDI-SHOWER-LT/-LTS shower trays are available in 39” x 39” (100 cm x 100 cm), 48” x 48” (122 cm x 122 cm), 55” x 55” (140 cm x 140 cm), 36” x 72” (91 cm x 183 cm), and 38” x 76” (97 cm x 193 cm).
Waterproofing is the foundation of successful tiled bathrooms. Moisture-sensitive construction materials, such as wood framing, plywood, and OSB must be protected in wet areas in order for a shower installation to remain mold-free.
In this shower application, KERDI has been used to form the watertight assembly, covering both the gypsum board on the walls, and the shower curb. KERDI is a pliable, sheet-applied polyethylene waterproofing membrane and vapor retarder, designed to prevent moisture from penetrating the solid backing and preserve the integrity of tile. Since it is made of inorganic materials, KERDI will not promote mold growth within the system.
Make a statement in the shower with the KERDI-LINE linear drain. This elegant, low-profile linear drain is available in channel lengths from 20" to 72" (50 cm to 180 cm) in 4" (10 cm) increments, and can be placed against the wall or at intermediate locations of the shower floor. Complete the look with the drain grate that best suits your style.

The KERDI-LINE linear drain can be installed with three different drain grates: closed design, perforated, and the frameless tileable covering support. The closed design and perforated options are both quite modern, with a bold, beautiful look. The tileable option features a stainless steel plate with KERDI laminated on the surface to allow for bonding of ceramic or stone tile, and creates a virtually invisible drainage line. The grate and frame assembly can be adjusted to a wide range of tile thicknesses, while the covering support is placed flush with the channel body and can therefore accommodate any thickness covering.
