The Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, located in Vancouver, British Columbia, is one of Canada’s most prestigious and historic golf clubs. Established in 1911, it is known for its beautifully maintained course, rich history, and exceptional reputation within the Canadian golf community. The club offers a classic golfing experience with a blend of natural beauty, challenging holes, and a welcoming, exclusive atmosphere.
In preparation of a major event, this upscale country club sought to update their locker rooms which include luxurious, continuous-use steam rooms. The sensitive environment of a steam room can propagate mold, mildew, and other water damage. The club required a durable, watertight construction that would also facilitate a high-end design.
The general contractor was not sure how a tight radius could be achieved on the three-tiered waterfall bench with conventional building materials like dimensional lumber, metal studs, and rigid cladding. Project designer TDI, referred the contractor to Schluter® Systems for an onsite orientation.
Familiar with the versatility of KERDI-BOARD, the project design team recommended Schluter® Systems to the general contractor. Schluter provided the general contractor with an onsite orientation featuring the KERDI-BOARD family of products, including KERDI-BOARD-V—a vertically grooved building panel that allows for the creation of tight radius edges on the bench.
The contractor found the lightweight building panels easy to work with and was impressed with the versatility, efficacy, and ease of installation of the Schluter family of products. The curved edges of the three-tiered benches accommodate elegant mosaic tile while providing a comfortable seat. The steam room floors slope gradually toward the KERDI-LINE linear drain that is discretely tucked beneath a bench. The entire construction of the steam room is waterproof, vapor tight, and built to withstand the test of time.
